Lymphatic Drainage Massage in Dublin
Gentle, physiotherapist-led lymphatic drainage for the body and face at our clinic in Ranelagh, Dublin 6. Also available on home visitsWhat is lymphatic drainage massage?
Lymphatic drainage massage, also called manual lymphatic drainage or MLD, is a light, rhythmic hands-on technique that encourages the movement of lymph fluid through the body. Your lymphatic system clears excess fluid from your tissues, and when it is slowed by surgery, injury or inactivity, fluid can build up and cause swelling, heaviness and discomfort.
Unlike a deep tissue or sports massage, the pressure is very gentle. The aim is to move fluid towards the lymph nodes, where the body can clear it naturally.
- Swelling after surgery, including orthopaedic and cosmetic procedures
- Swelling after a sprain, strain or other injury
- Heavy, puffy or tired legs
- Recovery after intense training or competition
- Facial puffiness or swelling, including after facial or dental procedures
Who is it for?
Lymphatic drainage can also be carried out on the face and neck. Using very light, precise strokes, it helps move excess fluid away from the face, which can reduce puffiness and swelling, including after facial or dental surgery. It is offered as part of our facial physiotherapy service.
What to expect at your appointment
Your session begins with an assessment of your swelling, your medical history and, if you have had surgery, your surgeon's guidance. Treatment is carried out with you lying comfortably, using slow, light strokes over the affected area and nearby lymph nodes. Most people find it very relaxing.
Why see a physiotherapist for lymphatic drainage?
A physiotherapist can assess why the swelling is there, check that treatment is safe for you, and combine lymphatic drainage with movement, exercise and advice so the results last. If you are recovering from surgery, your treatment is planned around your stage of healing.
Patient’s Reviews
I had a really positive experience at The Body Lab. I went in with quite severe back pain from a muscle spasm, and Ghazi was patient and attentive throughout. He carried out a thorough assessment and recommended helpful exercises. He was professional, respectful, and took the time to listen to my concerns. I’d definitely recommend this clinic!!!

I came here with knee pain after being recommended by a friend. Great location, and Ghazi was such a professional, being able to identify the problem straight away. I already booked more sessions before leaving the building.

I had sudden severe lower back pain from a tough lower body session in the gym and was struggling to walk for two days. I rang the clinic around 5pm and was seen in the next half an hour. The clinic is lovely and Ghazi is very kind and professional. The next day my back was back to normal, no pain when walking, I was so grateful and would definitely recommend!
